While new CAFE regulations have put many automakers’ future rear-wheel vehicle plans on hold — including General Motors – Chrysler’s 300 and Dodge Charger will soldier on with a rear-wheel drive setup through their 2011 model year makeover.
Among the news from today's New New Chrysler briefing was this slide of the 2012 Dodge Charger. Look familiar? There's a reason...

This image reveals a sloping belt line and strong curve building from the front to the shoulders, reminiscent of the 1999 Dodge RT Charger Concept (below) it seems to borrow heavily from. We're also told the new Charger initially had rear door handles in the roof line rather than the door panel — giving it a two-door look — but this was eventually dropped.


Ralph Gilles, the Dodge brand's new boss, laid an Easter egg hunt on the assembled dealers, bankers and journalists. What you see above is a shot of the 2012 Dodge Charger that appeared briefly on the screen during Gilles' talk.

Once upon a time, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 laid claim to being the fastest SUV on the planet, offering 0-60 times of under five seconds and a top speed in excess of 155 mph. Since then, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and BMW X5 M and X6 M have nabbed the title away.

Jeep doesn’t look to be content with that scenario, however, and our sources within the company have confirmed that a new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is in the works and could be on sale by the first half of next year.

The prototype seen here was caught testing alongside a BMW X5 M SUV and this is clearly the rival that Jeep is targeting most. Like the previous generation, the new SRT8 model will resemble the regular Grand Cherokee on which it’s based but will adopt a more aggressive design for its front fascia. A lowered ride height and beefier brakes will also feature.

Not to be outdone by Toyota, who unveiled their 2010 Tundra last week, Chrysler LLC unveiled a new line of commercial versions of its Dodge Ram truck–the 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty trucks and the 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cabs–at the Chicago Auto Show.
The most notable thing about these new trucks is that for the first time, Chrysler is making them available with large crew cabs. Now you can take the whole crew out to a job, because the trucks can carry 5-6 passengers without cramming them in there.

Are these trucks a good deal during a recession when trucks are less attractive and the #1 industry that people use these vehicles for (construction) is hurting worse than most? Let’s wait for Chrysler to announce the price before we make that decision.

Executive Vice President for Product Development Frank Klegon said at the Chicago Auto Show that the 2010 trucks, due out in the fall, give Dodge the newest truck lineup in the industry.

First there were the spy shots of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and now there are the shots of the 2011 Dodge charger albeit in a tuned up setting as the model comes into the market in a completely new design.

The new face of the Charger gives away what the camouflage holds underneath its cover. The look though is a sleeker and bolder one. The tail lamp is expected to be of the horizontal bar design which is also the one that the Dodge Challenger sports. During testing phase, the car had a 556 HP Cadillac CTS-V installed on it. This engine has been used by Chrysler during performance benchmarking tests for its Charger SRT8.
